It was in my shcool days, during my primary school, that I happened to meet this great Saint Swamy Vilakshananda. He came to stay in one o my neighbor's apartments. Infact this building has common terrace and it was Swamiji himselfmin once of those days,one evening invited us just from the over head balcony of our apartment to his place.
I went with my grand aunty and we witnessed that evening's puja. Lord Venkateswara was the adorned deity, and Swamiji an ardent devotee of Balaji. He gave me a small booklet where he had written some songs in Tamil,titled Venateswara Thirupathikam with eleven songs( Padhikam in Tamil is eleven songs ).
I as a child, was terribly impressed by his personality, a tall slim man with powerful penetrating eyes.
He had such a beautiful base voice singing so very well. Slowly from that time my family members, my parents and siblings also started visiting him. I studied about him more and more,an excellent orator in Tamil and a gifted poet. The words used to just flow from his mouth with rhyme and rhytm. Though he was a saint he used to move like a family member with any body. He was very compassionate and kind with no disccimination whatsoever abou anything like age,sex,caste,community and monetary status.
He was well informed in Indian medicine. Lot of people used to approach him with personal problems. He had ready solutions to them and made them happy.
I was too small to understand his talks on Philosophy and spiritually oriented songs,But it definately gave me the base to developinterest in Spirituality later.
Swamiji had 720 publications to his credit as songs,lectures and books and booklets. He had also written his autobiography.
This was a saint with no expectation, not interested in popularity or personal gains and lived only for spiritual service to humanity.
My family as such was not well off economically. My father was a Clerk in Government Service. We could not dream of college education, leave alone professional studies. Swamiji gave the moral support to my father to pursue my elder sister's studies after her school final. Unfortunately we lost him with just less than 3 years association. But then his blessing was there in his astral form and myself and my elder sister both could became doctors and me specifically had been dreaming to becaome a doctor from childhood.
My getting involved in Yoga started only after my marriage with Major Murty with the full blessing of Swamiji. My husband was instrumental totally to my subsequent betterment in this direction.
